What does this hearing test measure?

This test plays pure tones at frequencies from 125 Hz up to 15 kHz, one ear at a time, and records the highest frequency you report hearing. Most healthy young adults hear up to about 15–17 kHz; sensitivity to high frequencies naturally declines with age, which is what the fun "hearing age" figure estimates.

How accurate is an online hearing test?

A browser test cannot replace an audiogram from an audiologist. Results depend heavily on your headphones, background noise, and volume calibration — that's why the calibration step matters. Treat the result as a rough indicator: if you consistently cannot hear frequencies below 8 kHz, or one ear scores much worse than the other, book a professional hearing check.

Why can I hear high frequencies in one ear but not the other?

Small differences between ears are normal, but a large gap can indicate noise damage or infection in the weaker ear. Loud concerts, headphones at high volume, and workplace noise are the most common causes of high-frequency loss. If the gap is obvious, get both ears checked properly.
