This tool requests access to your camera using the browser's built-in getUserMedia API and shows the live feed so you can confirm the picture works before a call. It reads the actual stream settings — resolution, frame rate and aspect ratio — so you see what your video-conferencing app will actually receive, not what the camera box claims.
Privacy is simple here: the video stream is rendered locally in your browser and never sent anywhere. Closing the page or pressing Stop releases the camera immediately — the browser indicator (usually a dot or camera icon near the tab) disappears when the stream is fully released.
Permission denied means the browser blocked camera access. Click the lock or camera icon in your address bar, set Camera to "Allow", and reload. On Windows, also check Settings → Privacy → Camera; on macOS, System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera must allow your browser.
"No camera found" usually means another app (Zoom, Teams, OBS) is holding the device exclusively, or a laptop privacy shutter is closed, or an external USB camera is unplugged. Unplug and replug USB cameras, close other video apps, and try again. A black image with no error is most often a physical privacy shutter or slider over the lens.
