Week 14 opens the second trimester, the stretch many call the honeymoon phase. Energy climbs, nausea recedes, and the baby begins coordinated facial work: squinting, frowning, even grimacing.
Fine lanugo hair starts covering the body for warmth. The liver and kidneys are functioning, and the baby can pass urine. The neck is defined and the chin lifts off the chest. Sucking muscles strengthen in the cheeks.
