Eruption dates are dependable because they're developmental; wear markers depend on diet, grazing, and cribbing, which is why vet estimates past 10 carry ±2-3 years and past 20 can swing 5. A horse with no papers and a smooth mouth is "aged 15-plus," and that's about as honest as teeth get.
