The shortcut route (average 87.6% → "that's a B+" → 3.3) lands 0.04 high and gets worse as grades spread — a 99 and a 77 average to 88 (B+, 3.3) but band honestly to A and C+ (3.15). Band first. A B average — 83-86% on the standard 13-band scale. The 3.0 line matters more than most grade points because employers, scholarships, and NCAA eligibility frequently use exactly 3.0 as a screen. A 2.9 and a 3.0 are the same letter family on paper, but one clears the filter and one doesn't.
